Badminton is one of the fastest racket sports in the world and has a huge following in Japan and across Asia. At the home Games in Tokyo, Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino won bronze in the mixed doubles, giving the host nation a badminton medal in front of its own fans.

Originally due to take place in 2020, the Games were postponed for a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and were held in the summer of 2021, keeping the “Tokyo 2020” name.
