A Royal Keepsake from 1977
The silver mount on this Wedgwood Prince Philip trinket box was hallmarked in London in 1977 – the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, when the Queen and Prince Philip celebrated 25 years of her reign together. With an edition of just 250, this box is far scarcer than many royal commemoratives of the period.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, married Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and supported her throughout her reign, becoming the longest-serving consort in British history. Since his death in 2021, well-made pieces bearing his portrait have become a treasured way for collectors to remember his remarkable life of service.
About Wedgwood Jasperware
Jasperware was developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s after years of experimentation, and it quickly became one of the most famous ceramics ever produced in Britain. Its smooth, unglazed stoneware body is usually coloured – most famously in “Wedgwood blue” – and decorated with white relief figures and portraits applied by hand. Combined with a hallmarked sterling silver mount, it brings together two great British crafts in one small piece. You can read more about the history of jasperware on the official Wedgwood website.
A particularly attractive piece of vintage Wedgwood and silver, combining the timeless appeal of blue jasperware with royal commemorative interest. Its limited-edition numbering and Prince Philip portrait make it a distinctive collectible for both Wedgwood and royal memorabilia enthusiasts.
