A superb 2014 UK Year of the Horse 1oz silver two-coin set, issued to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse and beautifully presented in its original fitted presentation case.

This interesting collection comprises two Year of the Horse 1oz silver £2 coins, struck in .999 fine silver and featuring the Year of the Horse design. The set includes both the standard issue and the much more unusual silver mule variety, which features a different obverse design. The accompanying Certificate of Provenance identifies the two pieces as the “Year of the Horse 1oz Silver Mule Coin” and “Year of the Horse 1oz Silver Coin.”

Condition

Both coins are housed individually in protective capsules and presented within the original fitted case, accompanied by the Certificate of Provenance.

The coins are presented in good overall condition, displaying some light signs of tarnishing consistent with age and storage. The Year of the Horse coin has some light milking to the obverse side. What Is a Mule Coin?

In coin collecting, a “mule” is a coin struck with an obverse and reverse that were never intended to be paired together. Because mules are produced by mistake, or in very small numbers, they are usually far scarcer than the standard issue and are keenly sought after by collectors of British coin varieties.
