Dating Your Royal Crown Derby: the XXII Mark
Royal Crown Derby used a system of date cyphers on the reverse of its pieces, and from 1938 onwards these took the form of Roman numerals. The XXII mark on this plate dates it to 1959, making it a genuine mid-century example. Being able to date a piece precisely is one of the things collectors most enjoy about Royal Crown Derby, and it adds to the provenance of this dinner plate.

Caring for Your Bone China
- Hand wash only in warm, soapy water – never put gilded china in a dishwasher or microwave.
- Avoid abrasive cloths and cleaners, which can wear away the gilding.
- Use plate dividers or soft cloths between plates when stacking.
- Choose a plate stand or hanger with padded or plastic-coated grips to protect the rim.
