About This Sony Discman Compact CD Player

The two-tone silver and dark grey casing has the rounded shape that makes these players so recognisable, with the Discman logo on the lid and a clear display and buttons along the front. The lid lifts to load a disc, and the battery compartment sits on the underside. Published specifications for the Sony D-180AN date it to the late 1990s, so this Sony Discman compact CD player is a great piece of that era.

A Short History of the Discman

Sony brought portable CD listening to the world with the D-50 in 1984, following on from the success of the Walkman. The Discman name became a familiar part of everyday life, and for many people it was the way they listened to music on the bus, on the train or at the gym in the 1990s. Today, retro audio is back in fashion, and collectors enjoy the look and feel of these players.

Using and Collecting Your Discman

Pop in two AA batteries and your favourite CDs, and this player is ready to go. You can use the supplied headphones or your own wired pair with a 3.5mm plug. A Sony Discman compact CD player also makes a fun gift for anyone who remembers the 1990s, or an interesting addition to a collection of vintage electronics. Caring for Your CD Player

Keep the lens clean and free from dust by closing the lid when the player is not in use. Wipe the casing with a soft, dry cloth, and remove the batteries if you are storing your Sony Discman compact CD player for a long time, as old batteries can leak.
