Sterling Silver Topped Cut Glass Scent Bottle
An attractive silver cut glass scent bottle, presented in good overall condition and offering an elegant addition to any collection of antique glass, silver or dressing table pieces.
The beautifully cut glass body features an intricate geometric pattern and is fitted with a sterling silver collar, believed to have been made by Duncan & Scobbie (D&S).
Condition
Please note that the original stopper/screw top is missing. The silver collar retains its internal threads, indicating that the bottle originally had a screw-fitting top. Despite this, the bottle remains an attractive decorative piece and could be used as a charming bud vase for small cut flowers or as an elegant display item.
The silver collar displays only a few very light dings, consistent with age and careful use. The cut glass body is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs.

About This Silver Cut Glass Scent Bottle
A beautiful antique combination of sterling silver and cut glass, offering timeless decorative appeal. An ideal addition for collectors of antique scent bottles, dressing table antiques or elegant miniature glassware.
The rounded body is cut with a deep criss-cross pattern and oval panels, and the base is finished with a cut star. The smooth, flared silver collar makes a simple contrast to all of that sparkle. Sitting on a sunny windowsill or dressing table, this silver cut glass scent bottle will catch the light from every angle.
About Duncan & Scobbie
Duncan & Scobbie was a Birmingham silver firm, and pieces bearing the name appear on the antique market from the early 20th century through to the 1960s, including tableware, tea caddies and dishes. The D&S mark on this collar sits beside the words “Sterling Silver”, as shown in the photographs.
A Short Guide to Cut Glass
Cut glass is decorated by grinding patterns into the surface using a wheel, leaving sharp facets that reflect and scatter the light. Scent and perfume bottles were a natural choice for this technique, as they stood on the dressing table where they could be seen and admired. A silver cut glass scent bottle like this one combines two traditional British crafts in one small piece.
Using Your Scent Bottle as a Bud Vase
As the top is missing, this silver cut glass scent bottle has a lovely second life as a bud vase. A single rose, a few sprigs of lavender or a small bunch of garden flowers would look charming at its neck. It could also be displayed empty on a dressing table, shelf or in a cabinet with other perfume bottles and glassware, or given as a pretty gift for anyone who enjoys vintage dressing table pieces.
Caring for Your Silver and Glass
Wash the glass by hand with lukewarm water and a little mild washing-up liquid, using a soft brush for the cut pattern, and dry it thoroughly. Avoid the dishwasher, which can cloud glass and dull silver. If you use your silver cut glass scent bottle for flowers, change the water regularly. Polish the collar gently with a soft silver cloth and keep it away from damp.
