Most of what we sell has already had a life before it reaches us: silver with a century of polish behind it, watches wound by several owners, coins that have passed through many hands. So adding brand-new jewellery to the shop was a big decision, and we only wanted to do it with a maker whose story sits comfortably alongside our antiques.
Meet W J Sutton
W J Sutton have been making jewellery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter since 1887, and they still make all their own pieces. The Jewellery Quarter has been the heart of British jewellery making for more than two centuries, and it’s home to the Birmingham Assay Office, whose anchor mark you’ll find on countless pieces of British silver and gold.
What we’ve chosen
We’ve started with a small selection in solid 925 sterling silver:
- Torq bangles, a classic open design that slips on easily.
- Bracelets for everyday wear.
- Pendants to wear on their own or layered.
- Chains in a range of styles.
New and pre-owned, kept separate
The new silver has its own section in the shop, kept apart from our pre-owned jewellery, so you always know exactly what you’re buying. Every pre-owned piece is still described honestly with any wear noted; every new piece arrives as it left the workshop.
Caring for new silver
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, especially in damp air. Wear it often, store each piece in its own pouch or an airtight bag, and give it a gentle rub with a silver cloth when it needs it. Our jewellery care guide has more tips.
Free delivery and 30-day returns
As with everything in our shop, UK delivery is free and tracked, and you have 30 days to return any item.
